Wilderness First Aid Course

This Wilderness First Aid course is an important and basic responsibility for anyone spending time in the outdoors.

The WFA is a nationally accredited course - designed to equip you with essential skills such as providing first aid in remote locations and coordinating emergency responses. There is required pre course work to be completed before the training.

Topics Covered:

  • Lifting and moving casualties

  • Fracture immobilisation including splinting

  • Head and spine injuries

  • Hypothermia and heat illness

  • Burns

  • Snake bites

  • Major bleeding

  • CPR

  • Medical conditions (diabetes, anaphylaxis, asthma etc)

  • Dealing with extended care needs of casualties (toileting, eating etc.)

  • Responding to a multi-casualty scenario

  • Interacting with other medical staff

  • Co-ordinating and working as part of a group response

  • In very long term patient care situations (4hrs+ to days) patient management is dynamic.
