Awaken your senses and embrace your body-based connection to the earth.

Through five days of survival skills, Nature Connection and community.

How would it feel to step away from the pressures of everyday life, long enough to remember your place in the natural world?

To go into the wilderness and know you can find comfort and kinship there? To feel confident you can survive in wild places?

That’s what Nature ONE offers – five days of skills, connection and community – to reset your inner landscape, nourish your soul and remind you that you belong to the land.

Radically reset and transform your life

There’s no doubt about it, the day-to-day routine of a modern lifestyle can often feel disconnected from the natural world.

We are constantly bombarded with information, decisions, screens and responsibilities – it’s no wonder it sometimes feels like too much – and yet not enough.

Nature ONE is your invitation to step out of that world – to detox from technology, break from routine, and drop into a more connected way of being.

Over five days, you’ll camp in a tranquil bushland setting, learn vital survival skills and practise deep nature connection – with guidance from experts who have over 20 years of experience to share.

These ancient, earth-based skills will anchor you into your body – mud-covered and wild –  so you can rediscover your place in the natural world and have an incredible time doing it!

The magic of survival skills and wild-sourced wisdom in Nature ONE helps you to:

  • Confidently understand how to stay alive in the wilderness.

  • Invigorate your future outdoor adventures.

  • Learn directly from local Indigenous Elders.

  • Take a break from technology.

  • Feel more calm and centred.

  • Live as an earth-connected human.

  • Feel a sense of belonging with the natural world.

  • Go on to create change in your own community.

Nature ONE graduate Suzi, who joined the Nature Connection and survival skills course.

“So many things have changed”

Hear why it books out months in advance:

“I was feeling very isolated and alone in the world and was seeking connection with like-minded people. After Nature ONE,  I felt alive, awake and reinvigorated. Feeling the connection of the Nature One tribe felt like I had arrived home, and I had really, home to the earth, home to community and home to myself. Since then, so many things have changed – my perception, self-awareness, connection to myself and others and my way of being in the world. It was exactly what I hoped it would be AND MORE!!”

– Suzi

Are these the kind of powerful, nature-based skills and experiences you crave?

Nature ONE, the prerequisite for our advanced survival courses, takes place over five days on a private property on the North Coast of New South Wales.

There you, and your new like-minded tribe, will learn fundamental survival skills and Nature Connection practices from Nature Philosophy Founders Katie and Sam, and co-facilitator JJ Bruce.

A large group of Nature Philosophy students are taking part in a nature connection and survival skills course. They are sitting on chairs or on the ground in the bush, watching Co-Founder Sam explain how to stay alive in the bush.
A group of Nature Philosophy students are gathered under a large canvas belltent, watching Co-Founder Sam talk about survival in the bush and connection with nature.

You’ll walk away with a practical, hands-on understanding of:

  • Primitive shelter construction.

  • Water purification.

  • Hand drill primitive fire.

  • Sit spots, bird language and nature observation practices.

  • Animal tracking and hunting.

  • Wild harvested bush foods and primitive cooking.

  • Basketry and string-making.

  • Nature-based dynamic silence meditation.

  • Survival awareness and movement.

As well as learning these incredibly empowering skills, you’ll have time for play – getting muddy, connecting with others and integrating all that you’ve learnt.

There is plenty of time to gather around the communal fires, practising skills and talking about the day – what you have seen, how you feel and what you’re learning. It’s amazing how quickly you’ll connect on a heart-to-heart level with the people on the journey with you – laughter, tears and soul-warming conversations included.

Your Nature ONE adventure includes:

  • A five-day survival skills and Nature Connection program with expert instruction from survival skills guides with more than 20 years of experience.

  • A chance to hear stories about local culture directly from local Indigenous Elders.

  • Wholesome food for all main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

  • Camping accommodation (BYO personal camping gear) – this includes an undercover communal area, bush toilets and bucket showers.

  • Fresh drinking water.

  • All program materials

  • Access to our private Facebook group for Nature Philosophy tribe to connect, share and learn.

A course with profound love and respect for Indigenous culture at its heart.

At Nature Philosophy, we have spent the past 15 years supporting our adopted Australian Aboriginal Yolngu family in North-East Arnhem land, NT share their culture with our community.  You can read more about this connection here.

We believe survival skills courses are only complete when woven together with Indigenous wisdom. That’s why, during Nature ONE, we are very fortunate to have local Indigenous Elders join us to share stories about their traditional culture. This is often an emotional and insightful journey of reconnection to the land we call Australia.

Hey, we’re Katie, Sam and JJ – your Nature ONE guides.

If you’re here, we don’t need to tell you how transformative nature connection can be – you already know or suspect! But you might not understand exactly why you’re being drawn towards it.

Put simply, a connection with nature is your birthright. It’s how we are designed to live – in harmony and respect for the flora and fauna, seasonal foods, weather patterns and changes around us.

Claiming your place amongst those natural rhythms, through learning how to survive in the wild, offers a deep sense of belonging and connection to the earth.

In turn, this empowers you to lead change in your local communities – becoming part of a global movement towards living in a more sustainable, earth-connected way.

And it’s why we’ve dedicated our lives to supporting others – using our extensive experience in Nature Connection practices, hunting and tracking, ceremonial rites of passage, primitive living and survival skills.

We’ve been friends and co-facilitators for 20 years and have spent considerable time with Australian Aboriginal elders and learning from American survival skills experts.

We live what we teach. And we can’t wait for you to join us.

Everything you need to know about Nature ONE survival skills course:

  • Nature ONE usually runs twice a year, but often books up months in advance (it’s one of our most popular programs) so it’s a good idea to get your early-bird ticket as soon as possible.

Our next program is October 2024 and March 2025.

  • Nature ONE is usually an investment of $1,499 but you can save $200 if you book an early bird spot. These are limited and expire 12 weeks before the course begins or until all early bird spots are taken.

  • Yes, you can pay for your place in three monthly instalments. This option is available via the booking page for the program you want to attend. You can also email us if you need a bespoke plan arranged.

  • Many of our Nature Philosophy tribe have started their journey towards a deep Nature Connection with Nature ONE.

It’s an incredible starting point, away from the hustle and bustle of your modern life. But that doesn’t mean it’s basic! Nature ONE is rich in expert guidance, hands-on skills and valuable practices you can take home.

It’s a lush, full-body experience guaranteed to supercharge your journey towards living as an earth-connected human.

Not sure you’re ready? We have free resources you can start with here.

  • Nature ONE teaches fundamental skills that we build on thoroughly in our advanced courses. It’s important you have this knowledge before you join the advanced courses or you won’t have the foundations needed to take your skills to the next level (or have as much fun).

It’s also a great chance for you to see how things work at Nature Philosophy and connect with the team and other like-minded participants.

  • Nature ONE is held on a private venue on the North Coast of New South Wales. It’s about 1.5 hours’ drive from Coffs Harbour Airport.

  • Once you book in we will send you detailed information about arriving on time and in style to our Nature ONE car park area.

The car park area is where we drop off all 2WD cars and vans, pack your gear into 4WDs and then head off in a convoy to reach our beautiful forest venue.

  • There is plenty of space to pop up your tent, access fresh drinking water and gather at our communal undercover shelter. We have both compost and pit toilets. There is a 4WD parking area (ideally no cars next to tents) and a camp kitchen where you can grab a tea or coffee. It’s also where all of our beautiful food is created by one of our amazing cooks!

  • It’s super limited (normally text only) and that’s just how we like it. This gives everyone a chance to truly disconnect from the pressures and intensity of their day-to-day and drop into a more earth-based way of being. We have an emergency contact number you can give your loved ones if you are keen to do a complete digital detox and disconnect your phone.

  • Once you book in, you’ll receive a detailed list of what camping and other equipment you’ll need to bring. It’s all easy to locate and the items will be familiar if you’ve ever gone camping. If you don’t have something on the list we recommend borrowing an item from friends rather than purchasing new camping gear.

There are a few carving items we highly recommend and we do ask everyone to bring a personal knife for wood carving. If you don’t have one of those or can’t find one before the class, we will have suitable knives for sale at the program, ranging from $50 to $70 (cash payment).

  • Our beautiful cooks locally source all of our ingredients and provide an array of food across all main meals. We cater for all dietary requirements – you’ll just need to let us know your preferences (meat, veg or vegan, dairy, non-dairy) when filling in your personal details form (that’s the next step after booking online).

We will also ask if you have any serious allergies to foods so we can ensure our cook creates foods for you without those ingredients!

  • Nature ONE is an adult program designed for humans aged 18 years and over. If you are under 18 years old and still want to attend, you will need to have an adult guardian attending the program with you. We often have families attend and welcome young kids to join the space. If you are interested in attending with your teenager or young child please reach out and email us for more information about how this works.

  • It’s ideal if you’re comfortable walking over rocky terrain, sitting on the ground or on a cushion on the ground plus bending down and carrying light loads – but you don’t need to be marathon fit!

We’ve had plenty of people successfully attend Nature ONE over the years with all sorts of mobility challenges. If you have a bad back, for example, it is very welcome in the space to bring a camp chair. If you have mobility or fitness concerns, send us an email here and we can discuss if it’s possible to get you there!

“During these few days, life seemed to slow down, connections were deeply felt and challenges were resolved in a most natural and tribal way. I was unaware just how profound and transformational this time in the bush would be.”
