13th - 17th September, 2023

THURSDAY afternoon - SUNDAY lunchtime, 2022

YARRALEN RETREAT, YARRAHAPINNI, NSW NORTH COAST

Are you ready to light the fire of your string mojo?

This is going to be an amazing 3 Day Workshop that deeply explores the depth of knowledge held by BARE Weaving facilitators Ingrid Riverstone, Kate Rydge and special guest weaver, natural dye enthusiast and self-confessed plant nerd, Jason Laucher. Jason is looking forward to demonstrating the creation and use of a simple traditional back strap loom to weave string into fabric! Kate and I are really hoping he'll be able to inspire some men to come and connect to our local Native Fibres.

We will cover plant identification, collection and processing, natural dyes, thigh and foot rolling two-strand cordage, from fine, soft yarn through to strong rope utilizing several traditional earth-based techniques.

Joining us for this 3 Day workshop will allow you to take your understanding of string to a new level.

Ingrid, Kate and Jason each have their own passion with string they'd love to share. There will be a chance to dive deeply into your own creative process as the workshop evolves as well as being guided in jewellery, fabric and net bag creation techniques and the use of natural foraged embellishments to add 'bling' to your creations!

This gathering will connect us all to the land and the ancient global tradition of plant wisdom.

We would love to have you join us!

MORE ABOUT BARE Weaving

BARE Weaving Workshops birthed from Kate Rydge and Ingrid Riverstone's passion to share basket weaving skills with local women on the North Coast of NSW.

BARE Weavers Ingrid & Kate focus on weaving with local native plant fibres and only dye with natural materials. Joining us for a workshop will connect you with an ancient tradition of women’s wisdom and immerse you into a deeper connection with your local environment.

GUEST INSTRUCTOR

Jason Laucher grew up in the Solomon islands where he was super inspired by the local people's deep knowledge of and connection to plants. At an early age, he was inspired and influenced by the arts and crafts techniques practised by the local men and women.
Deepening his personal exploration, Jason spent time in Lau and Northern Thailand engaging in masterful ancient techniques, including setting looms and practising a rarely documented form of back strap weaving as well as in-depth training in indigo vat dyes. Jason is a bonified plant nerd and loves the endless possibilities of creating dyes and woven forms from nature. He is super excited to share his knowledge with others.

**Please Note: Bare Weaving is a separate program from all other Nature Philosophy events, transfers and credits can not be made between the two programs. **
